The last two weeks in August were a bit slow for us in terms of ministry. The government takes time off and many people are on vacation to go to their hometown villages and prepare for the winter months. We took these 2 weeks to do three things.
2- Work on the house and yard
3- Start homeschooling with Jessie and Alan.
One way in which you prepare for winter around
Bulgaria is by storing up food. One major food here is called Lyutenitsa. It is prepared the last of August because that is when the peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes all are at the prime harvest time together. This takes a whole day to prepare and a whole day of rest afterwards. Our landlord is so nice! He brought all the vegetables and equipment and helped us all day. This is the process. You start with 44 pounds of red peppers, 22 pounds of tomatoes, and 11 pounds of eggplant. The vegetables must be grilled and/or blanched, peeled, ground, mixed, and then stirred continuously over an open fire for 2 hours in the August heat. It is then jarred and canned to be put up for winter. It is so much work, but the finished product is amazing. Bulgarians eat it like Americans do ketchup.
We also took this time to work around the house. We had been so busy this summer that our back yard was completely overgrown with weeds and needed attention desperately. We spent 3 days weeding and planting grass seed. (picture below) After Mitch left for school we also rearranged most of the furniture to make a classroom for homeschooling.Alan and Jessie started school and we are getting into a routine of working every morning and they are happy now to have a whole room dedicated to learning.
*The open door to spread the gospel in Macedonia in a large Roma community.
*We have had $8000 given since our last email! Praise the Lord! This will cover all of our expenses from August-Sept and pay our $2500 administration yearly fees plus $2600 that we put on my dad's credit card to get through June!
*Our ministry this weekend in Macedonia. They are hungry for training and it looks like we will be going here every month or so to minister. It is 70% Muslim in this area.
*We are still in need for the Oct.-Dec. budget deficit. God has confirmed that we are to be here on the ground doing His business and we know He will continue to finish the miraculous work He is doing through our partners and some people we have never met. We will rest in Him.
Chance, Dee Dee, Mitch, Catherine, Jessie, and Alan
Many thanks to those that love and pray for us. We value your partnership and support. Being on the frontline of ministry requires a definite group of people willing to pray and uplift us, and we know we would/could not be here without you all. You are loved much!
